Creating an Express Entry profile is the first step for skilled workers who want to immigrate to Canada through the Express Entry system. Express Entry is a points-based immigration system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for permanent residence from skilled workers. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create an Express Entry profile:
Step 1: Determine Eligibility
Before creating an Express Entry profile, ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements for one of the three federal economic immigration programs:
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
You’ll need to assess your eligibility based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. Each program has its specific requirements, so make sure you meet the criteria for at least one of them.
Step 2: Gather Required Documents
Collect all the necessary documents to support the information you’ll provide in your Express Entry profile. These documents may include language test results (IELTS or CELPIP), educational credential assessment, reference letters from previous employers, and other supporting documents.
Step 3: Create an Express Entry Profile Online
Visit the official Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website (www.canada.ca) and navigate to the Express Entry section. Click on “Come to Canada” and then “Express Entry.”
Here, you’ll find the option to “Get Started” or “Check Eligibility.” Follow the instructions to create a MyCIC account (if you don’t have one) and enter the required information, including personal details, education, work experience, language proficiency, and any other relevant details.
Step 4: Calculate Your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score
Once you’ve filled in all the information, the system will calculate your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The CRS score is based on factors like age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other criteria. The highest-ranking candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence during regular Express Entry draws.
Step 5: Submit Your Profile
If your CRS score meets the cut-off for a specific draw, you may receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. With an ITA, you can proceed to submit a complete application for permanent residence within the specified time (usually 60 days).
Step 6: Apply for Permanent Residence
Upon receiving an ITA, you must submit a complete application for permanent residence, including all required documents and fees.
Step 7: Wait for a Decision
After submitting your application, the IRCC will review it to ensure it meets all requirements. Processing times may vary, but you can check the status of your application online through your My CIC account.
It’s important to keep your Express Entry profile updated with any changes in your circumstances, such as new work experience or improved language test results. Doing so will help you maintain or improve your CRS score and increase your chances of receiving an ITA.
Remember, the Express Entry system is highly competitive, and meeting the minimum eligibility criteria doesn’t guarantee an ITA. However, by enhancing your CRS score and staying proactive, you can improve your chances of success in the Express Entry pool. Good luck with your application!
